Union Minister Piyush Goyal Addresses World Spice Congress 2023

“Spices unite India. Spices of India resonate across the country and reflect the rich traditional culture and heritage along with our well-known trading power. We have to once again bring back the old charm that Indian spices had across the world. India doesn’t settle for second best anymore. We have to become a world leader in the Spice Industry” said Union Minister for Commerce & Industry,  Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Piyush Goyal. He was the keynote speaker at the World Spice Congress being held at Navi Mumbai from the 15th to the 17th of September 2023. He also presented the Spices Export Excellence Awards for 2019-2020 and 2020-202 at the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Shri. Goyal, emphasized on the need to expand the spice industry through value addition to exports. He urged the industry stakeholders to work together to achieve a target of 10 billion dollars for exports by 2030 from the current 4 billion. He stated that achieving the target would require everyone to work together with  focused energies to capture newer markets through increased value addition along with expanding existing markets. Shri Goyal also suggested that the 35 million people of Indian origin residing across the world be made brand ambassadors to encourage increased consumption of Spices across the world.

The Minister urged the Spice industry to strive towards inclusivity and ensure support to farmers for adequate production. Shri Goyal also spoke on the importance of creating a certified brand value for Indian spices.

Addressing delegates from other parts of the world, the Minister stated that he was delighted  by their participation and appealed to them to enjoy Indian hospitality while also concluding successful business collaborations.

Shri Goyal congratulated the award winners and hoped that they will continue their remarkable performance, high standards and set the bar higher in the future so that Bharat gets recognized all over the world.

The Minister congratulated the Spices Board on conducting the Spice Congress after a hiatus of 7 years and also requested it to organize a world class exposition, symposium and conference of the spice industry in Delhi in the year 2024.  He asked the Board to invite all the  players in the industry for the event and allow the world to see India’s capabilities.

In conclusion, Shri Goyal noted that there was no better time to conduct this Congress than on the sidelines of the Indian presidency of G20. “The launch of the India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor is similar to the Spice Route of the past. So we should be actually looking up to this new initiative that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched along with other world leaders.  This is an appropriate opportunity for us to bring back the glory of the old Spice Route. It is an opportunity to celebrate the flavors of India and the versatility the country offers. Let us go to capture world markets. Just like life is incomplete without celebrations, food would be incomplete without spices. We should make this an essential ingredient across the world. The story of Indian Spices should be talked about and written about all over the world. Let us see how our grandmother’s remedies can be remedies of the world. Lets make India the preferred source of spices and capture the imagination of the rest of the world. If we all work together as a team we can spice up the world of commerce and exports. Let us delight the world with the magic of spices and let us preserve this magic for future generations” appealed the Minister to those present on the  occasion.

The inaugural function was followed by the launch of a book called ‘Spice Revolution – Promoting Value Addition in Global Spices Trade’ along with the product launches, business discussions and Tech Talks.  They provided a platform for the companies to spotlight the innovative products, brands and services related to the spice industry. The second day of the event concluded with a cookery show, which was an intriguing experience for the visitors. The 14th Congress edition brings together diverse participants, including policymakers, regulatory bodies, spice trade organisations, government representatives, and technical specialists from different nations. The event saw over 1000 delegates from India and across the world. They have come together to discuss the issues and opportunities within the worldwide spice trade.

The World Spice Congress 2023 has also curated an experience zone. It is an innovative take on the exhibitions for the delegates and participants to get a holistic feel of spices related to the gustatory, olfactory, and visual senses. The zone, located at a prime location at the World Spice Congress, gives a hands-on experience to visitors in the universe of spices.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal Emphasizes Automotive Industry at SIAM Annual Convention 2023

During the Valedictory session of the SIAM’s 63rd Annual Convention themed “‘Aatmanirbhar’– The Roadmap to Increased Localization and Harnessing Export Potential of the Indian Auto Industry”, the Chief Guest, Mr. Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles, Government of India, stated, “Democracy, demographic dividend, and diversity are the three D’s propelling the automobile industry onto the fast lane. India’s has achieved ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in many ways and have joined the ranks of nations where basic life aspirations such as digital connectivity, road infrastructure, healthcare, and water supply are being fulfilled, a testament to the ‘new India’ that our people collectively strive for. Today, the middle class seeks value and pride in their automobile choices, driving significant market demand indigenously. We must encourage significant investment in electronic components and products made in India, boost R&D within our nation, and nurture domestic industries. We must also reduce our dependence on imports and should rather trust our localised capabilities within our own ecosystem.”

Addressing the session, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, Steering Committee on Advancing Local value-add & Exports (SCALE), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, said, “Indian automotive industry has long embodied self-reliance, and has been working for very long towards being Aatmanirbhar. Currently, we are the world’s third-largest automobile market and India has clear advantages in terms of its demographics, geopolitical positioning, and now, with our success at the G20.  With being one of the largest markets, it is pertinent that efforts be placed to increase automotive exports and for that we need a dedicated task force that should work towards this goal. While we have come a long way in the domain of localization, true progress for the sector will be driven by the export market.”

3rd India-EU High Level Dialogue on Trade and Investment

The 3rd High Level Dialogue (HLD), co-chaired by the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Shri PiyushGoyaland the European Commission Executive Vice-Presidentfor an Economy that Works for People& Trade Commissioner Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, was held on 26thAugust, 2023.

The HLD is an outcome of the decision taken at the 15th India-EU Leader’s Summit held in July 2020, with an objective for a Ministerial level guidance towards the bilateral trade and investment relations.

During the discussion, in the HLD, the Ministers took stock of ongoing three negotiations between India and EU i.e. India-EU Free Trade Agreement; a standalone Investment Protection Agreement; and a Geographical Indications Agreement. The Ministers acknowledged that both sides have made good progress inthe ongoing three negotiations.

The Ministers broadly discussed about the market access issue of both sides and review the progress made so far under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council. The upcoming MC-13 matters were also briefly discussed during the meeting.

Shri PiyushGoyalappreciated the visit of the European CommissionEVPMr. Valdis Dombrovskis and extending his support for recent G20 Trade and Investment Minister’s Meeting held in Jaipur on 24th -25th August, 2023.

The meeting concluded with both the Ministers expressing confidence on the ongoing three negotiations and committed themselves towards deepening of the India-EU commercial and economic partnership.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal Addresses G20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal said that focus of G20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting (TIMM) will be on easing barriers to international trade and investment; helping boost productivity and output and fostering economic growth and prosperity for all. While addressing the opening session of TIMM in Jaipur, Rajasthan today, the Minister encouraged the Ministers from G20 and other invitee countries to work collectively to achieve concrete, decisive and action-oriented outcomes.

Shri Piyush Goyal said that TIMM focusses on formulating shared outcomes on issues related to the multilateral trading system, inclusive trade and ease of trade and business. He said that these issues have been deliberated upon in the four Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meetings held under India’s G20 Presidency. The Minister said that the meetings have aimed at formulating fair, inclusive and sustainable trade and trade related investment policies.

Shri Goyal mentioned that TIMM will have Sessions on (i) Multilateral Trade for Global Growth & Prosperity; (ii) Inclusive & Resilient Trade and (iii) Leveraging Technology for Paperless Trade. He expressed that these Sessions will result in coming up with significant outcomes keeping in mind the current multinational challenges.

The Minister highlighted that the five priority issues namely (i) Trade for Growth & Prosperity, (ii) Resilient Trade and GVCs, (iii) Integrating MSMEs in World Trade, (iv) Logistics for Trade and (v) WTO Reforms have been extensively discussed among the G20 member/invitee countries during the TIWG meetings. He noted that in today’s interconnected world, the concept of global value chains has revolutionized the way nations engage in trade and investment. Shri Goyal added that the COVID-19 pandemic and other shocks have disrupted the global value chains and made us realize the importance of promoting inclusive and sustainable global value chains.

Shri Goyal said that India under its G20 Presidency has recognized the crucial role played by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the global economy and makes efforts under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi to provide them continuous support. He said that MSMEs are the backbone of economies driving innovation, creating jobs and contributing significantly to overall economic growth. The Minister said that equitable access and participation for MSMEs in global trade must be ensured to unlock new avenues for growth. He also cited the example of successful integration of MSMEs in the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and its benefits.

The Minister said that the shared commitment to foster inclusive growth extends beyond the boundaries of our traditional systems. While recognizing the importance of smooth logistics for international trade, he said that paperless trading is a critical step towards streamlining cross border transactions, reducing administrative delays and enhancing the pace in trade operations. Shri Goyal cited the example of PM GatiShakti initiative for infrastructure development and logistics efficiency using layers of GIS data to plan and implement projects.

He said that it is imperative to have a more dynamic and inclusive trade environment, with reforms in the World Trade Organization (WTO). Shri Goyal said that these reforms must reflect the evolving global economic landscape. He said that India can provide leadership to the Global South in the realm of trade and investment and integrate the world economy making it more inclusive. The Minister said that the spirit of collaboration and mutual understanding defines G20 whose decisions shape the trajectory of economies, livelihoods of people, and the future of the world.

Piyush Goyal Discusses Roadmap for $250B Textiles Production and $100B Exports by 2030

Union Minister for Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal discussed the roadmap to achieve the target of $250 billion textiles production and $100 billion exports by 2030.

While interacting with the officers and staff during the Chintan Shivir organized by the Ministry of Textiles, Shri Goyal emphasized on holistic approach towards making the Textiles sector more vibrant so as to prepare to take on global competition. He asked the officers to come up with innovative ideas and underscored the importance of streamlining the institutional structure for better service delivery.

The Ministry of Textiles organized Chintan Shivir on 18th of July to brainstorm on various issues relating to the sector.

The session was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh, who highlighted the importance of the textiles sector in the economic growth of the country and the need to collectively focus on promoting growth across all segments in the value chain.

She mentioned that the Chintan Shivir was a platform for collectively deliberating and finding solutions on important issues pertaining to the sector. It would also help in promoting better understanding and coordination among all offices within the fold of Ministry of Textiles.

Officers from the Ministry of Textiles as well as field offices from across the country attended the day long Chintan Shivir.

Group Brainstorming sessions were held on five themes namely – Promoting Exports; Investment- Building Size and Scale; Sustainability; Shift from Natural to Man Made Fibre and Improving Service Delivery. Detailed presentations were made by the respective groups giving specific recommendations and solutions to the problems posed. Team Building session organized by the representatives from Capacity Building Commission also provided an opportunity in enhancing communication and interaction among the participants.

Shri Gaur Gopal Das, lifestyle coach and motivational speaker and Shri Vivek Sahni, CEO and Co-Founder, Kama Ayurveda addressed the participants and shared their perspective and experience.

India Joins Resilient Supply Chains with Trusted Partners: Piyush Goyal

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal, appreciated the role of Indian industries and stakeholders in making India a major player in the world economy and a part of resilient supply chains amongst trusted partners. Addressing the 187th Annual General Meeting of Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry today, the Minister said that the goal of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ is not about closing doors but opening India to the world for greater international trade and making it a part of global value chains.

Shri Goyal said that India’s competitive and comparative advantages have to be leveraged for integration with the world economy and this is being focussed upon in the ongoing negotiations for Free Trade Agreements. The Minister noted the measures undertaken to attract investment and improve Ease of Doing Business like the Production Linked Incentive schemes, focus on R&D and innovation, effort to decriminalize corporate offences, reduce compliances, focus on logistics, last-mile connectivity, etc.

The Minister quoted a recent study which stated that India is the top choice for investors as per 85 Sovereign Wealth Funds and 57 Central Banks. Shri Goyal said that it is time to take advantage of the edge that India has in economies of scale, demographic dividend, government-industry partnership, focus on quality and efficiency, sustainability and innovation. Shri Goyal said that the Government is focussing on 4L- Land, labour, Liquidity & Laws and Five pillars- Economy, Infrastructure, System, Vibrant Demography & Demand for making India a developed country.

Shri Goyal mentioned that the world recognizes India as an emerging superpower now. The Minister said that the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3 by India is a matter of pride for every Indian and its successful landing on the Moon will make India the fourth country in the world to land its Spacecraft on the surface of the Moon. He appreciated the involvement of the private sector in space as it bodes well for rapid and significant advances for the future.

Shri Piyush Goyal highlighted the success of the recent foreign visits of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi to USA and Egypt and France and UAE as it helped in positioning India on the world map. The Minister said that the bestowing of awards like Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest accolade by the different countries and prestigious organisations on the Prime Minister is a testimony to growing stature of the Prime Minister representing 140 Crore Indians on the global stage.

Shri Goyal quoted the Prime Minister and said, “The third decade of the last century gave new momentum to the struggle for India’s Independence; Now the third decade of the new century will give impetus to the development journey of India.” The Minister said that this global recognition of India has been because of the significant efforts undertaken by the Government to meet the basic needs of every Indian by serving the poor, engaging in service with a sense of purpose, encouraging transparency and working towards corruption-free India.

The Minister said that the Government has focussed upon ensuring welfare for all without any discrimination. Shri Goyal cited the examples of providing homes to around 4 crore poor and needy families, free foodgrains to 80 crore beneficiaries every month, piped gas supply, piped water supply, Ayushman Bharat for free healthcare, toilets in every house, digital connectivity, etc. The Minister noted that these initiatives aim at improving the living standards of the underprivileged sections of the society and empowering them to aspire for a better future.

Shri Goyal said that the last two years have witnessed record exports but now the world is moving towards recession, developed economies are under stress, commodity prices are softening, discretionary spending is lukewarm and demand is reducing. The Minister said that it is incumbent upon all of us to work together and make ‘India story’ a compelling story for the world.

The Minister appreciated the theme of the AGM ‘What we are and what we want to be’ as reflective of the aspiration of the country. Shri Goyal said that India in 2047 will be way ahead of India of 2023 as the last decade has been a defining decade with significant achievements under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister. He lauded the aspiration of 140 Crore Indians working with full commitment and dedication towards a new, developed and prosperous India in 2047.

PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Park will Strengthen the Progress of Maharashtra: Piyush Goyal

Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal congratulated the state of Maharashtra for being awarded the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Amravati. While addressing the launch ceremony of PM MITRA Textile Park, Amravati today, the Minister emphasized that the addition of PM MITRA Park would further strengthen the rapid progress of Maharashtra.

Shri Piyush Goyal said that given Maharashtra’s significant contributions across the entire textile value chain, from Farm to Fiber to Factory to Fashion to Foreign, it is a natural choice for a textile park.

Shri Goyal further highlighted that the well-connected infrastructure of Amravati, including its road, rail, port, and airport networks, will significantly boost the textile industry in Maharashtra.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh. The Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra Shri Chandrakant Patil; Minister of Industries, Government of Maharashtra, Shri Uday Samant; Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Smt. Rachna Shah and Principal Secretary, Industries, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. Harshdeep Kamble were also present amongst the dignitaries on the occasion.

Smt. Darshana Jardosh, acknowledging India’s historical prowess as a textile hub, emphasized that the establishment of PM MITRA Parks in various states, including Amravati, Maharashtra, is a crucial step toward making India a global textiles manufacturing hub. She added that the integrated park would attract more investment to Maharashtra, generate employment opportunities, and foster innovation, research, and training in the textiles sector.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Government of Maharashtra, and the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, for the establishment of PM MITRA Park.

The PM MITRA Textile Park in Amravati is expected to attract an investment of Rs. 10,000 crore and create both direct and indirect employment for approximately 300,000 individuals.

Spanning across a contiguous 1020 acres of land at Nandgaon Peth, adjacent to the Additional Amravati Industrial Area (MIDC), the Park is situated just 30 kilometers away from the Mumbai Nagpur Samruddhi Highway and 147 kilometers from the nearest port, the Wardha Dry Port. As a brownfield park, it already possesses essential infrastructure such as roads, water, and electricity.
